Fugly (Eric) runs both Scottish businesses. He and his brother, together with lawyers stated that the Scottish golf courses were purchased using the family’s wealth. No loans were sought.
It turns out, however, trump’s Scottish golf courses reported losses, totalling £3.4m. So, the Deutsche Bank came to the organisation’s rescue.
But now, with their finances and tax liabilities, the impressive loans to trump worth about $340m (£249m) repayable in 2023 and 2024, is all under heavy investigation.
Golf Recreation, in Ayrshire, lost £2.3m in 2019. trump and co had just finished ploughing more money into upgrading its facilities. trump’s course at Menie, north of Aberdeen watched another £1.1m in 2019 float out of reach so the family trust tossed in almost £1.2m to keep it running.
Both Scottish courses owe the trump organisation a pretty £158m.
trump, under the advice of Fugly, sought another loan from Deutsche Bank to fund the refurbishment of Turnberry. This time, he used his Miami resort as collateral.
Scotland, during the pandemic, not only forgot to play golf but when the lockdown was lifted, refused to pay trump’s exorbitant membership fees when the courses reopened.
Basically, he left because he couldn’t bully Scotland. Instead of admiring his childish machismo — like some Americans — they mocked him. Trump’s frail ego couldn’t take the disrespect so he left.
The golf courses were a financial liability, but he probably would’ve stuck with them if he had local and national support. But the Scottish people hated him. In fact, they were trailblazers in being the first Trump-haters outside North America. One Scot even flew a Mexican flag just to annoy Trump.
Before Trump was inaugurated, most of the world was simply puzzled, unsure and even a bit intrigued. But not Scotland. Like us New Yorkers, they already knew the real Donald J. Trump, and the horror that was about to be unleashed on the world.

This photo of Janey Godley welcoming Trump to Scotland went viral and became a meme. It inspired many copycats around the world. Note the Trump helicopter in back. For those who find the word “cunt” sexist, it has no sexist connotation in Scotland. It’s simply an insult, just like “prick” or “dick” in the US. Indeed, “Trump is a cunt” was mostly displayed by women.

If you don’t know what a “jobby” is, just look at the drawing. Yes, it’s the Scottish equivalent of “turd.”
