Why are so many people anti-Trump? People didn’t like Obama either, but he was the president, so people didn’t do this. What makes Trump different?

I hate Trump because he is a gargantuan pile of human exrcement. He was well know to be a conman before he became a reality TV star, which used scripting and editing to make him look like he was at least half competent. And he is a rapist, too. He then went on to sow division and racism as he entered politics.

I have watched a literal cult of personality rise around him while he has been following the guidebook “Adolph Hitler’s 12 Steps to Overthrow a Constitutional Republic and Become an Authoritarian Dictator” all the way up to Step 11.

Ideologically, I didn’t agree with Obama on a lot of policy issues. But people didn’t attack Obama over political differences. They pretended he was a Muslim, an illegal immigrant, a communist, a socialist, and a homosexual. Republicans vowed early on to oppose Obama on everything even when they agreed with him. All mostly because of his race. So you’re right, it wasn’t like it is with Trump.

Trump’s critics complain that he keeps abusing his office, violating the Constitution, and committing crimes. Policy-wise, he makes the dumbest financial decisions of any President in history. In his first term, he created a record deficit after increasing the deficit every year for four years, and he’s already increasing it again now.

We saw the worst four year period for GDP growth, and it’s already slowing again. He saw the most job losses in history after four years of slowing job creation, and he’s already slowing job creation again. He saw the six largest point drops in the history of the Dow in his first term after four years of slowed growth, with 2018 being the worst year for the Dow since the 2008 housing crisis, and he’s already seen another point drop bigger than any other than those during his own first term.

He just made the largest tax increase in American history through his tariffs which are already increasing inflation. We were already on the brink of a recession before Covid and now we’re back at the brink again now.

He wasted billions on a useless border wall, wasted millions or billions more rebranding part of the Air Force into his idiotic Space Force, and wasted millions more vacationing constantly at his own properties where he profited from charging Secret Service agents for lodging and even for bottles of water.

He committed at least one war crime in his first term and has already committed another. Now he’s renamed the Gulf of Mexico and wants to start calling the Department of Defense the Department of War.

In his first term he reneged on promises to replace Obamacare, pay off the national debt, destroy ISIS, and release his taxes. Now he’s reneged on promises to lower grocery prices, to end the Ukraine war, and to release the Epstein files—and now he says Republicans who vote to release those files are attacking him personally.

In addition to all the reasons he’s a terrible President, he’s also a horrible person. Despite defrauding customers, contractors, and business partners, he still bankrupted multiple businesses—including casinos. He is an admitted sex offender and admitted pedophile, a convicted felon, and an adjudicated rapist.

He is a serial adulterer who cheated on all his wives and paid a porn star for sex. He has been credibly been accused of rape multiple times including the rape of at least one thirteen year old girl. And he was clearly close with Epstein and flew on his plane at least seven times.

People also criticize him for being phenomenally stupid and mentally ill. He thinks George Washington captured British airports, wanted to nuke Hurricanes, misspelled a three-letter word on a smartphone, thinks magnets stop working underwater, says Obama spied on him by turning his microwave into a camera, suggested we could cure covid by opening up a patient’s lungs and scrubbing them down with Lysol and letting them dry in the sun, and thinks windmill sounds cause cancer.

So long story short, people hated Obama because he was black. People hate Trump because he’s a criminal and a moron trying to destroy the country.

In my 80 years I have seen a lot of US presidents. All of them have their supporters and detractors. Obama and Trump are no different, in that respect. However, there is one very significant difference, in my view. obama told the truth and a lot of his detractors didn’t like his views and policits. By contrast, Trump often lies (this has been proven many times in court), and you have to see through them in order to properly assess the man.

That said, when considering why people are anti-Trump, see two basic reasons.

  1. Some people who oppose Trump know who he really is. Such people are usually familiar with Trump’s track record, from long before he became well known to the greater US population on the “Apprentice” TV show, where he was incorrectly depicted as a “successful” businessman. People who know better realize that Trump’s purported business success was anything but. He never ran a truly big busiess, where he had to deal with stockholders and a board of directors. Instead, his businesses were, at best, shady operations, run in the style of a Mafia operation, and, at worst, outright scams. Look up Trump University, for example, one of his enterprises that was found guilty of fraud and had to pay big fines in restitution to the students that they defrauded. Or look into his six bankruptcies, where he often stiffed his suppliers, subcontractors, employees, and investors. He calls it “smart”. Most of us call it highly unethical.
  2. Some people, especially those trained and educated in scientific research or good scholarly research, know to look at all the evidence, not just the evidence that supports what one wishes were true or that support’s one’s beliefs or wishes. Failure to do this is a very common human phenomenon known as “confirmation bias”. Outfits like Fox News, con men throughout history, cult leaders, populist politicians, and others have exploited this human tendency to achieve popularity and success by telling people what they want to hear, whether it is true or not. Most people love to hear someone telling them what they want to hear. As a result, they often fall for this technique. It is how Hitler, Mussolini, numerous cult leaders, snake oil salesmen, and con men have achieved success. Donald Trump is a master at the technique. Note how often he has changed his position when he realized that his followers didn’t want to hear what he was telling them. For example, he proudly took undeserved credit for the Covid-19 vaccine until he realized that many of his followers were anti-vaxxers. Then he suddenly quit talking about the vaccine, even though he himself took several dozes of it, and started to promote untried and medically unwise alternatives that his followers wanted to believe in.

i could go on and on about both of these reasons why some people are anti-Trump. Just read some of the many books written by Trump insiders since his first election. Books by Mary Trump, John Bolton, Bob Woodward and Liz Cheney are particularly insightful and written by very reliable sources, despite how they are disparaged on some right-wing media.

Even Bill Barr, Trump’s attorney general who bent over backwards to make the Mueller report sound more favorable to Trump than it really was, has written a book and given interviews where he talks about why we should never allow him in the White House again.

Or read about the Dominion voting Machines vs Fox News lawsuit where the evidence clearly showed that when Fox news told the truth they lost viewers, so they intentionally lied to keep a bigger audience and make more mony. This illustrates the same technique that Trump uses.

Vladimir Putin is a well known critic of democracy. One of his main arguments against it is that too many of the people who vote for their leaders will not spend enough time examining the facts, especially the facts that don’t support their beliefs, and therefore they will tend to elect the people who claim to hold the same views they do…As a result, they often elect incompetent charlatans who tell their voters what they want to hear rather than telling them the truth. Unfortunately, those US citizens who support Trump exemplify what Putin is saying.
