They probably weren’t very happy but they couldn’t really complain very much. The United States of America stole British nuclear secrets and technology during the Manhattan Project.
The arrangement had been to share information and make it freely available to all of the countries that contributed to the Manhattan Project and the development of the atomic bomb after the war.
The United States kept the information as well as claim the three atomic bombs built were purely American designed and built .The detonator for the Nagasaki bomb was British.
One reason why there was no need to test it first, unlike the Hiroshima bomb. The United Kingdom had to start their research again after the Second World War when the United States of America refused to return the information that had been shared by British, Canadian and mainland European scientists.
The British nuclear warheads were developed and built in Hatfield in the United Kingdom. The delivery systems were built in the United Kingdom and tested on the Isle of Wight, where I was born. The first British nuclear tests took place in Australia in the very early 1950’s, just a few years after having to restart Britain’s nuclear deterrent programme after the theft of data.
Interestingly enough the Manhattan Project first began in the United Kingdom before being moved to the United States as a result of German bombing in the UK.
