As a citizen of one of America,s staunch allies , Australia , let me enlighten you . At present your country is really on the nose . Our government has just signed a deal worth the best part of a trillion dollars on defence . Two days later your cocksucker in charge slammed us with unwarranted tarrif barriers . Australia is more than just a bit peeved . You have threatened our fellow Commonwealth of Nations member , Canada , militarily and financially. You have threatened peaceful Greenland , a part of Denmark . The current Queen of Denmark is an Australian . Does not go down well here . Your government is busy telling Europe to be more understanding of far right fascist political groupings . Australia sacrificed a generation of our young men fighting and defeating those fuckers . Now you want the world to act all warm and fuzzy towards them just because you gooses elected a right wing bunch of cunts . Does not put you in a good light here . Trump and his three ringed circus are the most incompetent corrupt cohort you could find on this planet and you expect us to follow your lead . You can blow that out your arse . America had a large store of good will from it,s allies built up over generations and it has , over the space of a few short weeks, flushed that good will down Trumps gold plated crapper . It will take decades to rebuild any sort of trust , if at all possible , with your once proud allies .
America , WHAT THE FUCK HAVE YOU DONE .
I think the relationship is already beyond repair. (For context, I live in France).
Personally, I now avoid any American product or company like the plague. And I don’t see it change any time soon, even if a more decent person were to take power in the United States (the likes of Biden or Obama).
People in other countries are already moving on, adapting to a world where the United States is no longer the world’s hegemon, and adjusting accordingly, both at the people level, and at the government level.
Personally, I intend to no longer buy physical products produced by American brands (Coca-Cola, Levi’s, Colgate, etc).
And the same holds true for digital products. I setup Linux as an operating system on my computer, to no longer use Windows. I will no longer use Amazon, AirBnB, and other American online retailers. I deactivated my Facebook account. I used to run a YouTube channel for design tutorials. Now, I will no longer use YouTube, and am in the process of figuring out another video hosting solution.
If trust is broken, it takes a hell of hard work to be built back again. It takes decades to build a relationship, but merely weeks to tear it apart.
Americans like to bring up WWII, that they “liberated” Europe from Nazism. For this answer, I will bring up this guy:

If you do not know who that is, this is the Marquis de Lafayette, a French nobleman, that fought alongside American revolutionaries in the American war of independence. So yes, the ties between France and the United States go for that long, for about quarter millenium, with French volunteers that fought alongside Americans in their war of independence.
And all of this thrown out of the window, in just a matter of weeks, because of hubris, and ignorance.
Another thing that Americans need to understand is that it is their network of alliances – political, economic and military alliances – that have helped the United States become a global hegemon. This, and of course its soft power. Which came in many forms: USAID, which is now gone, for the most part. News networks such as VOA and RFE/RL are also in the process of being taken over and shrunk down by the Trump administration. And of course, music and movies. If people lose sympathy for the US, not sure if they will continue to consume the movies and music that it produces.
So without all of these, the United States is quickly in the process of losing its position as a world hegemon, and becoming nothing more than a regional power.
And lastly, regarding this “Gulf of America” controversy. I think people in Latin-American countries are right, the term “America” ought now to be reserved for America as a continent, and no longer be appropriated by any particular country.
Will ruin? He’s already ruined it. A relationship that took more than a century to build up – now ripped to shreds by the Mango Mussolini in only a few weeks. A century of work between Canadian and American officials: wartime, peace, trade agreements. Sure there were disagreements, but nothing like a moronic Trump acting like a spoiled 5 year old throwing temper tantrums.
It will take a very long time indeed before Canada trusts another US President.
Grass roots boycotts are growing, with a multitude of web sites offering Canadian (or non-American) products. Grocery shopping today: products from Canada, from Belgium, from Italy .. not a one from the US.
Travel boycotts? Bookings for US vacation flights are down 25% at Canada’s two major airlines, and falling fast. They’re repositioning their flights for domestic vacations instead.
Canadians are pissed off, as we have not been for a long time. Probably the last guy who pissed off and united Canadians to this extent was a fellow named Adolf. English, French, liberals, conservatives. Even Quebec nationalists are waving the Canadian flag and singing O Canada!
Like Doug Ford, Premier of Ontario. He’s about as right wing as they come in Canadian politics. He was even a Trump supporter. Now, Trump has pissed off Ford so much that Ford is Captain Canada. Here he is, wearing his anti-MAGA hat. Don’t get me wrong: Ford is still a jerk, but right now, he’s our jerk.
Doug Ford was the first one to suggest removing American liquor from Ontario’s provincial liquor stores – now all the provinces are doing it. American beer, wine, and spirits is – or was – a $1 Billion market in Canada. Not any more!

The Tories under Pierre Poilievre had an insane lead over the Liberals, who were seriously looking like they might even come in third place in the Federal election coming this fall. Now the Liberals and Poilievre Tories are tied, and the Liberals are still rising. Poilievre has been seen as too cozy with Trumpism, despite his recent protestations to the contrary.
