Yes, but you have to get away from the silly fiction that this is Trump’s fault. Trump isn’t the problem here. The GOP are not the problem here. Republican’s in congress are not the problem here. The US is likely to become a dictatorship because that is what a high percentage of US citizens want.
Look at any average of Trump approval ratings – does threatening to invade allied countries result in Americans disapproving of Trump? No. Does taking healthcare away from millions of Americans result in Americans disapproving of Trump? No. Does violently sexually assaulting women and being a criminal result in Americans disapproving of Trump? No.
Does rolling out the red carpet for a war criminal and mass murderer while abusing the leader of the country whose population he is murdering result in Americans disapproving of Trump? No. Does openly taking bribes from foreign countries result in Americans disapproving of Trump?
No. Does fantasising about poor and desperate immigrants being viciously killed by alligators in front of the world’s press result in Americans disapproving of Trump? No.
Yes, you might try to claim that not all Americans think that way, perhaps even the majority don’t. But do you really think its good that 45% of Americans love the idea of desperate immigrants being killed by alligators, that 45% of Americans are happy to start a war with Canada, that 45% of Americans want to be ruled by a man that thinks he has the right to sexually abuse women, that 45% of Americans want a president that supports war criminals and love dictators?
The truth is that of Republican members of congress thought that supporting any of the above hideous behaviours would reduce the chances of them being re-elected then they wouldn’t do it. Republican politicians support Trump because they think it helps their careers and supporting Trump helps their careers because a sufficient number of American voters support every single immoral and hideous thing Trump does.
If you want to save the US, its not Trump you need to cure, it’s Trump supporters.
