I addressed this very issue in another answer not too long ago, but I will do it again, only with a twist.

Trump tells outrageous and blatant lies for the same reason you tell your significant other that they’re the most beautiful person in the world, incredibly smart and wonderfully kind.

Now, they can easily disprove that by comparing themselves to Angelia Jolie, Neil DeGrasse-Tyson, and Pope Francis, but do they? Of course they don’t.

Trump takes this to another level. He tells this lie to make his supporters feel better about themselves. Trump’s supporters are often very much like him. They’re rich, but mostly because their parents were rich. They’re racist. They haven’t got a good education. They’re not kind.

What they do have is self-esteem out the wazoo. They’re walking talking examples of the Dunning-Kruger effect and their prospects are limited by the Peter Principle.

Dunning-Kruger effect – everyone overestimates their own ability and no-one thinks they’re below average.

Peter Principle – everyone advances until they reach a position where they’re incompetent, then they stay there.

Generally, when these people have problems in their lives, it’s their own fault. Trump’s lies convince him that their problems are someone else’s fault. Democrats. Mexicans. China. Whoever.

All his supporters are kind, good looking and smart. It’s the priests, supermodels and scientists who are mean, ugly and stupid.

Trump’s followers believe because they want to believe. Telling the truth would burst that bubble, and he can’t afford that. It’s why Nigerian scammers will always tell you that they just need a little more money to get you all the massive amount of money they’ve promised you. The people who buy into that are true believers. You and I know it’s a scam, but they can’t be told the same.

On 2nd thought, perhaps it is not why. The question really is why is he not challenged and why is he so successful at lying.

WHY IS HE NOT CHALLENGED

• Because he is so darn good at it. Interviewers don’t know what to say and when they do;
• He belittles the interviewer or gives them backhanded praise as in, you could do so much better, you know I am correct, you have so much potential. They get flustered or intimidated because;
• Trump is relentless, he will even let some interviewers speak (I am focusing on that not the speeches which are not fact checked) until he speaks over them.
• He keeps it simple, sound bites. Eating the dogs, eating the cats. On stage he has time, he can ‘weave’ and weave he does.
• Media only picks up on the sound bites. The left says it is crazy, the right especially Fox say it is brilliant.
• The GOP media machine is powerful, also relentless and well balanced between vitriol and home spun folksy talk mixed with lies.
• Any interview is either friendly or controlled, never live. Even that is a lie that he has so many interviews that are open as they are not.
• Media fall all over themselves to interview him and don’t want him to get upset as they are whores for ‘exclusives’.
• Sound bites, sound bites and so so sincere. Simple sentences, repeated over and over as in the ‘3 apple granny story’ or the he invented the word ‘groceries’ and he is allowed to go into it for several minutes.
• Avoidance of the subject, he is the master.

LET’S SUMMARIZE

American journalists are cowed and as they are not usually journalists rather presenters, they are easily dominated and beaten by Trump who is now mythic in his power and sway over them. They are easily bullied by Trump or his surrogates and are simply to polite to fight back ceding the entire program over to them.

Progressives are angry and no one is listening. A rant by a black woman on CNN against Scott Jennings gets 10s of thousands of complaints on right wing podcasts.

Dems and the media are no match against Trump. Never have been never will be. Trump is the master of the lie. He is folksy, simple, leans forward and sounds sincere.

No one challenges him which shows the average interviewer is dumber than Trump.

COULD I OR WOULD I OR YOU BE DIFFERENT?

I would like to think so. Unfortunately Trump would probably walk off stage as he does that if he cannot dominate. He simply runs away like his bone spurs, any time anyone challenges him he ends the interview and walks off.

And pops up within an hour on another friendly and your tough questions are forgotten.

WHY ARE THERE NO ALTERNATIVES ESPECIALLY FROM THE LEFT

That is the ultimate question. The left is zero on the PR and brain dead focusing on issues no one cares about. The DNC and other groups? Where are they and their strategies are simply terrible. So no one challenges Trump and if they did no one is watching. Trump is clicks, Dems are not.

CONCLUSION

If there ever was a cabal or swamp or deep state, they have failed miserably in keeping Trump under scrutiny. It would take the entire industry to challenge him and they will not. After all they are making money too.

No one will challenge Trump’s lies, definitely not to his face. Not now when he is by far the most powerful US president since, well maybe George Washington. He has SCOTUS guaranteed immunity, his majorities in Congress, 26 red states and a cabinet full of rabid retribution monsters who are raring to go get them.

Trump in the end may be the most moderate of the Gestapo he has hired.

That should be what really scares you.
