Oh yes. In a BIG way.
Millions of Canadians living in a border city used to scoot down to the closest US town to shop for groceries weekly- but no more.
Millions of Canadians visited the US every year as tourists-Canada was the #1 source of US tourism revenue- but no more
Hundreds of thousands of Canadian ‘snowbirds’ owned second homes in the U.S.- but many are selling all U.S. real estate, and they winter in Mexico, Costa Rica or Europe instead.
- Hardest hit are Florida and Louisiana, and Las Vegas, Nevada
Canadian shoppers used to buy US goods without a thought. Now we buy Canadian or any other country’s goods over US if we can. Our Liquor Control Boards used to import tons of bourbon whiskies from Kentucky, and wine from California for example- but no more.
- Purchases of Kentucky bourbon by Canada is down almost 80%
- In some provinces, US booze has been taken off the shelves- you can’t buy it
But it is not just because of the tariffs. It is also the bullying, the insults, the threats, the act of dishonouring the CUSMA trade pact- all coming from McFelon- that has united Canadians against the US government.
Canadians have seen this show before and it did not end well:

I’m an American living in the Detroit area, so I listen to quite a bit of Canadian radio broadcasts, primarily CKLW in Windsor. As far as I can see, the Canadians are completely pissed and united against the present US leadership and its doings, particularly the tariffs, and the other bufoonish comments, lies and threats. I’ve seen some bitter feelings and opinions from Canadian youtubers, interrupting their project videos for entire videos dedicated to their displeasure at the US President.
They are fairly much trying to set themselves up to be economically independent from the US. There are PSA’s playing during program intermissions all the time, by well known Canadian celebrities and personalities, Anne Murray of Snowbird fame among others, starting with the instrumental Canadian national anthem Oh Canada; “This is XX, and I’m standing tall for Canada. Buy Canadian! Check the label, if it says made in Canada, buy it! Shop as if your country depends on it. Keep your money in Canada, for Canada”.
Even after this administration is gone, I doubt the hurt and betrayal Candians feel over this, and the damaged US Canada relations and trust, will recover and heal for a long, long time. Although, maybe not all is lost, I just ran into a story where Canadian fans at a Maple Leafs’ hockey game stepped up and finished the Star Spangled banner after the singer’s mic failed.
I was talking to a friend yesterday, Sept 10/25. Rotary sponsors a bike ride from the States and through the Kootenay area of BC. The ride is to raise money for charity; it starts in the States.
The ride was just cancelled because the Canadian Rotary members refused to go down to the States for the start of the ride. My grandson is in hockey that has Spokane as part of the league. In past years folks would travel back and forth for games within the league.
This year, my kids said they will not be going to Spokane for scheduled games. It is not just the tariffs that are annoying us Canadians, but the general mindset of Americans. Calling us the 51 State, threatening to annex (AKA invade) Canada.
Telling us that here is nothing that Canada has that is needed by Americans. Fine; then you ain’t getting our money either. We are seriously pissed.
