Here is a letter from the UK’s Ministry of Defence to an American arms manufacturer, possibly:
Dear sir,
As you know we currently have a contract with you to supply us with XXX pieces of your equipment.
However, we have become increasingly concerned that you are unable to supply the equipment in accordance to terms set out in the contract, namely in that it has apparently been deliberately designed to become inoperable in certain circumstances.
As you may recall, your National President has recently announced the presence of a “kill switch” which would render the equipment supplied by you to misfunction at a critical moment in the defence of our country.
In the interest of national security and in view of the fact that you are unable to fulfil your contractual obligations, we feel that we have no choice but to cancel the contract forthwith and return all equipment as previously supplied with a full refund. You will note that there is a clause in your contract that allows us to seek a refund if your equipment is defective.
Edit: Sorry I had to disable posts on this one but I am getting so fed up fielding comments about this latter being fake or bogus. Yes, of course it’s FAKE and of course IT NEVER HAPPENED, that’s the whole POINT!
There will be letters like this but this one was written by me with my tongue planted firmly in cheek. Got it!?
Pay attention. Trump and Vance both stated that if European allies tried to use US made weapons systems in a way that the Trump administration did not like, they would find that the weapon systems would not work. Equally as Australia and others have found out, trying to send US made weapons systems to their allies in the Ukraine requires authorisation from the Pentagon. Do those sound like the actions or words of a reliable, trustworthy ally to you? Europe and NATO certainly don’t think so.
So you should rephrase your question to be – Why is the Trump administration threatening US allies with weapons use restrictions?
As to the European arms industry, we have always been very good at developing world leading arms and systems, but have perhaps been a bit complacent. Not anymore. The UK is first to deploy a working directed energy weapon. The German Taurus missile system is probably the best in the world. The Anglo, Italian and Japanese GCAP 6th generation aircraft programme is considered to be the furthest ahead and British nuclear attachments submarines are generally considered to be joint best in the world, with some of the Nordic countries’ conventional submarines being as good as nuclear boats. Do not piss Europe off Trump, you will not win.
I’ll admit I’m confused. For AGES, he had this beef with NATO about how they should be standing on their own feet and not expecting America to keep riding to the rescue. Of course, people TRIED to tell him that they were, and it never had, but, you know, the message got stuck in his earwax or something.
Then he declared war on NATO by threatening to annexe Canada and Greenland, and NATO was at last forced to recognise that the US had left the club. In response, it decided to (a) massively increase defense budgets (which the Cumquat C#nt had said he wanted them to do) and (b) not buy American to do it if they could help it, which the Mad King hadn’t thought was an option because he doesn’t read and can’t think. And the reason for the second wasn’t just that your Shitgibbon_in_Chief had declared war on them by threatening to invade, no, it was worse than that – he’d publicly sided with an enemy. Sharing defence information with him was sharing it with Putin, who absolutely SHOULD NOT know Europe’s defence plans.
So you see, sweetheart, this hasn’t come out of nowhere, it’s come out of your Donald’s behaviour, and the rest of the world doesn’t care if he’s “provoked” or not.
It is not “out of nowhere”. The U.S government has made perfectly clear that the U.S.A. is no longer an ally. It is now potentially hostile to NATO and all of its former allies including Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, the European Union, British Isles, and its trans-pacific partners.
America is siding with Russia over Ukraine and has launched an economic trade war on most of the world.
The U.S. can no longer be trusted by its former allies.
Take the Lougheed Martin F35- a popular American-made fighter jet. Every country that purchases one of these jets has a service contract that the U.S. manufacturer maintains. It gives that manufacturer control over the jet’s computerized systems. This was never a problem when you were a U.S. ally. You trusted them to keep the jet’s hardware and software running properly.
Not now.
U.S. President tRumpf has threatened to crush Canada’s economy so he can annex us= even a possible invasion. We have some of those F35s. We can no longer trust the U.S not to use the ‘kill switch’ hidden in the software of our F35s. He could order his people to stall our jets mid-air.
Canada has announced that it will honour our contract for the F35s that we have ordered under contract. However, we will not be purchasing any more.
And that is why European customers are canceling contracts wherever there is an out clause that allows it.
As for your snarky comment about Europeans “provoking Donald Trump”- that is stupid. They do not trust America. This is not about something so simplistic as provoking a single vain human being. This is about the life and death of our pilots and the ultimate safety of our countries if America decides to go to war with us.
It is a very serious matter, not about upsetting poor widdle donnie’s feelings.
